Pawan Kumar is a photographer with a diverse repertoire, ranging from hardcore news to artistic and thought provoking features. In his treasure of pictures while those taken before the digital technology set in display his artful use of natural lights and the lenses, the ones taken with the sophisticated camera of today bear a technical finesse.
Three Decades of experience in photography, Pawan's pictures have found place on the covers of leading indianmagazines, including The Week, India Today and Outlook includes many international scores NGM Kids, NYT, The IHT, The Guardian, Washington Post, The WSJ, Time, Newsweek, BBC, South China Morning Post, Shanghai Daily, The National, The Straits Times, Bangkok Post, Sydney Morning Herald, The Australian, The LA Times, Boston Globe, Baltimore Sun, The Globe and Mail, Le Figaro, Stern, Berliner Zeitung, The Independent, The Telegraph, Gulf News, La Republica, Liberation UOL and many more.
One of Pawan's photographs was selected as Best Picture in 2002 by Times International. Pawan's work has been appreciated by international agencies. For two consecutive years, 2005 and 2006, his pictures were adjudged Best Picture of the year by Reuters. Another of Pawan's pictures was voted best through online voting by Yahoo and the picture was subsequently published by many international magazines and found place in National Geographic Kids Magazine in September 2007 as well as in the Bestseller section in Reuters. Pawan's work was published in Reuters' best collection book.
An avid traveller, Pawan has travelled extensively across Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand and Rajasthan covering general elections, conflicts, sports events, travel and tourism, Industrial, environment and natural calamities.
In the past, Pawan was associated with international news agencies Associated Press (AP) and Agency France Presse (AFP) along with Leading Daily The Times of India and now Photo Editor of Reputed Shukrawaar Hindi National Magazine and Contributor photographer for Reuters and The Week magazine.
